The cottage down the lane
Such a pretty sight
It is a lonely walk home out in the Snow
But at least the ground is white
The Trees and Bushes covered
With a blanket of crispy white snowflakes
That glistens in the afternoon Sun
What a picturesque scene it makes
Carrying wood home for the fire
So it will rage up in the fireplace
And bring warmth and peace inside the home
A bit of poor man’s style and grace
With very little money
Food is pretty scarce you see
But making homemade bread and Jam
Means there’s something there for tea
The snow upon the rooftop
Helps to keep the heat in during the cold wintery night
Along with the hanging Oil Lamps
The rooms are warm and bright
Not much farther now to go
And will soon be at the door
Can go inside and get warm again
What man can ask for more?
What to some people may seem a lonely life?
But to me its peace and tranquillity
Because the person trudging home wearily in the Snow
Is no one else but me
Now the door is slowly opening
So in I go as fast as fast can be
Now back warm inside my home the door is now firmly closed
I put more logs onto the fire in the grate
So now it is time for a nice warm cup of tea
Now I am home safely in my rocking chair with a meal on a nice warm plate.
Cyril the Squirrel
A short distance away
Across the road from my home
In the trees behind the bungalows opposite
A couple of Squirrels seem to roam
Happy as they can be they seem to care not a jot
Dashing about here there and everywhere at all times of the day
Flying through the branches without a care in the world
Its seems they spend most of their lives just being at play
Always dashing off somewhere I just don’t know how they do it
Their bushy tails waving in the wind leaping from one tree to the next
Hurtling around at break neck speeds as they go
As I watch I am just mystified and complexed
As they disappear from the trees, down to the ground they go foraging
Hunting for food where they may have buried it some time ago
They must have store ready for winter they have collected all Summer
And kept underground so they have food for the winter buried under the prevailing Snow
Their little hands and feet look a bit like ours to a layman like me
Obviously handy when they are leaping around high up of the ground
Today I saw about eight of them racing all over the Old Oak Tree darting here and there
Though through all the excitement I did not hear a sound
How they never lose their footing or mishandle a branch or two
As I watched intently from on the ground way below
Suddenly they have disappeared from view
So quickly do they move about, I think to myself I never saw them go
One minute they are there and then they have disappeared so fast
And I am left alone standing on the ground below.
A little while later two of them returned
Or should I say five because they had little three ones in tow
It was a wonderful sight to see them all together
Dad, Mum and the little ones all three in a row
They disappeared as quickly as they had first appeared
But I felt honoured to have seen them all together
It left me with a nice warm glow and I hope they stay near
And I will see them again whatever the weather.
My Heart the Postman and You
As I sit at staring at my mobile phone, waiting
For the telephone to ring
I think maybe I will be lucky
A love letter maybe, the Postman will bring
A message from the one I love
As true as true can be
Just remember that special love
Begins with you and me
Always in my thoughts and on my mind
The girl I left so far behind
Whose magic smile just melts my heart
And took my very soul right from the start
I may be so far away
In a hostile land and against the enemy
But will be home again someday
Back to your arms, don’t you see
So as I sit and wait for the daily post
The man who drifts in like a ghost
To bring weekly joy from his mailbag
The daily wait is such a drag
But the perfume on the paper I can smell
Just goes down, so very well
Reminds me what I miss so much
Your kisses and your wonderful touch
Sometimes, when I get down, and my mind wanders
Melancholy thoughts abound
Of times together, that may have past
And why I miss you so, when you are not around
So Mr Postman, do your best
Bring me that special message that I need
From my loved one so far away
Today I hope you can get through, Oh yes, Oh yes indeed
Let me Dream
Let me dream my thoughts of you
And sleep soundly the whole night through
A trip to paradise it seems
Awaits in my slumber dreams
Where all is wonderful and good
And happiness will be there just like it should
True love comes once in a lifetime if you’re blessed
Who knows it may have already arrived, you may have guessed
So I will sleep my wondrous sleep
And in my heart my thoughts I keep
To dream of the one that you love so much
That has that special kiss and lovely touch
Is a blessing to be savoured and cherished completely
To paradise to be taken so sweetly
Hug the pillow as you dream
And it will always seem
Like that special someone is there with you
So never wake up sad or feeling blue
So off to bed I go
To dream of someone wonderful that I know
Taken from this world of ours
To one of beauty, filled with Sun and Flowers
Footpaths lined with Roses red
And little Robins that flutter above my head
So then we can walk hand in hand
For a short while in the Promised Land
Together forever a lasting monument
Just sent to make our lives content
As the Stars shine brightly in the sky
With a passing Meteor flying bye
Together in our land of Dreams
Where everything is as it seems
Always in my mind and heart I say
Together forever and a wonderful day
