A Few Short Lines of Verse
Within a velvet dream
A heart can keep a million secrets
Tied to a lovers thoughts long distance
For many reasons a picture can thrill
A heart which tonight lies sleeping
Love is like a Butterfly
Flutters inside, makes colors flow
Like a Rainbow of happiness
Encapsulating true feelings that will never go
He wanders through the long grass
Thinking of the time they laid together
Making love in the evening breeze
So silent was the moment
Disturbed
Only by an Angels sneeze
A Weeping Willow hangs its head in prayer
Never noticing we are there
Making love beneath the silvery moon
Two hearts beating in the eerie gloom
Far away in our own little world together
Oblivious to the inclement weather
I lit the flame of passion in your heart
To lead and guide you
It’s safe for you to follow your heart’s desire
But you may not see the entire road for where it’s leading
But each step will be lit along the way
Trust and follow your renewed passion
To divine magic
Sometimes love runs smoothly
Each and every day
That’s because we truly love one another
In each and every way
She looks like an Angel sat on a silver cloud at night
Her open wings shining in the bright moonlight
A dress that shimmers like cascading starlight
Oh how wonderful she looks tonight
Paradise is just in a heartbeat
From a smile that will always say
I love you every day
A touch, a look, a tender kiss
Just means my love is forever yours
And will never fade away
As I look up to the bright blue sky
I lazily gaze and wonder why
The clouds look familiar all the while
Then I see the image of your lovely smile
Outlined in a cloud so sweet
Now I know why my life is complete
Someone who makes me smile
Causes my heart to flutter all the while
Always there to hold my hand
And to completely understand
Someone I love so much you see
I wonder just who she can be
Maybe it’s you
You do not bring me flowers
Just pearls of wisdom
But you bring me sunshine
In words you say
Brightens my day in every way
That’s why I love you so
Love is pure
Words so true
There’s always a place
in my heart for you
A tiny Butterfly sat on a windowsill
So still, it showed me no matter how you feel
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
And love makes a beautiful sight to see
Moments like these are precious, just like life itself
Memories last forever, like books upon a shelf
Someone so very special, with love in her heart just for me
Shows how lucky the rest of my life can be
To have someone so very special to love me for all eternity
I never dreamed this could happen to me
A heart, like glass can shatter
Sharp cuts can be the pain
All that’s left are memories
Of the splinters that remain
LOVE
We search for it
And touch it
Bottle it till it dies
We hold it, we nurture it
And the inside remains in pieces
Because of all the lies
Etch me a heart
With love and happiness within
Cork me a dream within forever
So true love can then begin
Sweet dreams can last a lifetime
Forever and a day
Love that grows and grows
Will never fade away
My heart always beats and fills my mind
With lovely thoughts of you
So I pray my dream will never end
Like they so often do
If I could reach for the Moon tonight
And give it to you I would
If I could reach out for the Stars
And place them on your pillow if I could
Then place a Moonbeam on your sweet lips
Where it would stay for a short while
And I could watch in wonderment
At your true Angel’s smile
And I could watch in wonderment
At your true Angel’s smile
In a Secluded Wood
In a secluded wood a lonely house sits
Amongst the trees looking forlorn
Until the winter and the Snow
Light up and relieve all the gloom
Its pathway now covered in a white blanket
And the steps now slippery with Ice
However, its lights glow like a beacon
Causing the whole house to glow
As the smoke pours out from its chimney on high
A white streak going up into the sky
It looks like a picture from a Christmas card
A warm welcome I am sure, would be had inside
To sit beside the raging fires
One in every room
To toast some bread, bake some spuds
A jolly time would be had by all
In fact, I know it would
You see, it’s where I grew up as a child
A house full of love and laughter
Memories never forgotten
As I walk down the lane, the steps remain
But the house is now a ruin
It is such a shame when things come to an end
But sadly time marches on
Moreover, my childhood was long ago
Oh to rebuild it to its former glory
But the pictures I remember
Assure that its lives on forever
The Wind
The wind whistles over the mountains
Across the valley below
Just to let you know it’s there
And to say hello
The chill it brings makes the air go cold
You shiver and shake just to keep warm
It can also bring inclement weather
Hailstones, Rain or Snow
As it howls out its fearful call
Animals run for cover
To find a nice sheltered place
To huddle against one another
Darkened clouds form overhead
You know a storm is brewing soon
As darkness descends you tend to forget
Its only early afternoon
The Trees and Flowers will welcome
The storm that is about to commence
But an Owl contemplates his next move
As he sits upon a fence
The nearby wood seems to be
His refuge throughout the coming storm
So off he flies to sit and wait
Till all returns to norm
The Deer are all running wildly
Frightened at what is about to occur
As other creatures run and hide
Suddenly everything’s a blur
As the Wind and Rain starts to pour down
With Hailstones, Snow and Rain
The Valley becomes a desolate place
Until better weather returns again
Shortly all is quiet
As the storms desist and leave
But leaving behind such devastation
Such a sight is hard to believe.
The Workhouse
In the year of 1853
So poor, it’s to the workhouse for me
No Mum, no Dad no family
I am just another bastard you see
Inside the place it’s cold and damp
I suffer ailments, like colds and cramp
Sitting here I feel so forlorn
Beginning to wish I had never been born
Work in the laundry from dawn to dusk
Living on gruel, and sometimes some rusk
Beaten, starved and they call this home
Is it no wonder I feel so alone
Only ten years old am I you see
I should be living happily
Skipping gaily as a child
A little girl so meek and mild
But here I am so often used
Beaten, damaged and abused
I work so hard every given day
but still get treated in this way
Mr Bartlett runs the home
I think he has a heart of stone
Takes no notice of my plight
Ignores my screams throughout the night
Young Johnny takes such a great delight
IN hurting me, this is my plight
Bullies others, just like me
Would tell but no one listens to me
Calloused hands and chilblains on my feet
As a child I’ve changed, no longer mild and sweet
I have to steal to stay alive
Or sell my body to survive
Another long day, a sad one too
I lost a friend her name was Sue
Found dead in a doorway, having run away
Starved, half naked some did say
My heart grows heavy by the day
In this place I have to stay
Washing, Ironing sheets and things
Whatever arrives, what the rich people bring
Today I feel so tired, my body weighs a ton
And the day has only just begun
By noon I need to go and rest
To an alcove I know best
Down in the cellar, cold and damp
I lie on rags, behind a ramp
Out of sight, not to be seen
No one will know where I have been
As time rolls by, sleep turns to passing
Another child not everlasting
My name is Jenny, but who cares
Just another orphan living downstairs
The plight of children in these times
Can’t be put into nursery rhymes
Sad but true, no one dared
In truth and reality no one cared
For the poor it was the workhouse plain and simple
To the rich, these people were just a pimple
On the backside of society
Not interested in Jenny and where she may be
Another lost soul, no one would miss
Was found early next morning, no one to kiss
Her goodbye, died all alone
No longer in that horrible home
